Since the onset of the financial crisis, people have for the first time been considering the Islamic economic model as a serious alternative. WIM gathers together numerous Islamic scholars, lawyers and economic experts with the aim of propagating the traditional production, trading and distribution standards associated with this means of payment. The Islamic economic model, based on markets, trading facilities and the complex Islamic contract law, is founded on this authentic means of payment.

Major aspects of Islamic economic law are now no longer taught. The WIM Sharia Council researches the Islamic legal foundations along with their sources, and makes its research available to the public. WIM holds regular seminars and training courses on these topics. WIM has also initiated the translation of important texts and source materials into English to make them available to a broader readership.

Mints, shops, agencies and depots can be officially licensed if they uphold WIM’s standards. Licences are issued following applications to WIM’s administration in London. Shops, restaurants and service providers can then use the official WIM stickers. WIM is not a producer, trader or manufacturer itself, but can put people in touch with other producers and traders.
